“Pick a problem you are passionate about and obsess over it.”
“Language is not enough to describe human movement.”
“Instead of a potpourri of projects, pick a specific yet critical aspect of the problem and solve it gradually with a series of findings to make a thesis.”
This was just some advice Filip Szatkowski and Damian Sójka, PhD students at IDEAS NCBR, got at International Computer Vision Summer School ICVSS 2024 at Ragusa, Sicily. As the school puts it, “The last decade has seen a revolution in the theory and application of computer vision and machine learning. The next decade will see machine perception in embodied systems which learn representations for and from action and interaction.” We hope our researchers take part.
It also turned out that outdoor poster sessions at night are fun. Our PhD students presented posters of their papers co-authored with Tomasz Trzcinski, Sebastian Cygert, Bartlomiej Twardowski and Bartosz Wójcik, Mikołaj Piórczyński, Simone Scardapane.
And it was time to see Etna’s eternal flame.
