On June 17, 2024, Dr. Eng. Krzysztof Walas was elected by the general meeting of Adra (AI, Data and Robotics Association) as a member of the Board of Directors in the “Robotics” section on behalf of the scientific community. The presence of Krzysztof Walas on the Adra BOD will make this body more diverse, especially since the Central European countries Eastern Europe (including Poland) have so far been underrepresented. Its role will be key in building cooperation between centers belonging to the Adra, euRobotics and ELLIS networks.
‘I am very happy that the Polish voice is becoming more and more heard internationally. IDEAS NCBR joined Adra at the beginning of this year and we will have the opportunity to actively shape European policy in the future sector that is the development of robotics. The previous Board of Directors consisted primarily of representatives from the western, northern and southern parts of Europe. It is important that decision-makers also include a voice from Central and Eastern Europe. Adra not only sets directions for technology development, but also actively supports the creation of policies and strategies at the European level, which is of key importance for the future of technological innovations both in Poland and on the entire continent,’ comments Dr. Eng. Krzysztof Walas, leader of the “Physical Interaction Robotics” research team at IDEAS NCBR.
International network around AI, data and robotics
Adra is a prestigious organization in the field of artificial intelligence, robotics and data that collects the most important information and opinions of European institutions related to these issues. It also stimulates the implementation of solutions in the above three areas so that Europe can effectively face socio-economic challenges.
Adra was founded in 2021 as a public-private partnership at the European Commission: European Partnership on AI, Data and Robotics, one of the European Partnerships in Cluster 4 (digital, industrial and space) under the Horizon Europe program.
One of Adra’s most important activities was the creation of the strategic document ‘Strategic Orientation towards an AI, Data and Robotics Roadmap 2025-2027’ with detailed recommendations for future European Union work programs in the field of AI, data and robotics, which is also a comprehensive guide to ethical and social challenges and dilemmas in this area of science, as well as with the implications of AI and data security.
Krzysztof’s experience
Dr. Eng. Krzysztof Walas, leader of the “Physical Interaction Robotics” research team at IDEAS NCBR, combines artificial intelligence and robotics in his work. He actively participates in the work of Adra, euRobotics and ELLIS, helping to establish contacts between these communities. As the organizer of events such as the 2019 European Robotics Week Central Event, he contributes to the integration of the scientific community in Europe.
Krzysztof has published in leading scientific journals, including: “Science Robotics”, “Transactions on Robotics” and “Robotics and Automation Letters”. He was the principal investigator in two “Horizon 2020” projects. He was involved in the work of Adra, including the preparation of the program document “GenAI and Robotics 4EU”.
