Job Description

Leadership

• Develop and manage a portfolio of computer science research and innovation that is relevant to AI and the digital economy technologies.
• Build, manage and lead a team of 20 in the next several years.
• Carry out line-management, performance and talent management, and be responsible for the development of team members.
• Be an ambassador of the Artificial Intelligence Research Group and IDEAS NCBR.

Research and Teaching

• Develop and lead on research programmes of significant impact and quality in own subject area.
• Publish research outcomes in high-quality publications or other recognised forms of output (e.g., software, patents, creative works)
• Actively pursue research and collaborative partnerships across the leading Polish University and with other institutions and relevant bodies.
• Lead funding bids (Particularly EU fundings) that contribute to the reputation and income generation of IDEAS NCBR.

Innovation and Commercialisation

• Identify and develop commercial opportunities relevant to the strategy of IDEAS NCBR.
• Communicate and collaborate with industry partners, identifying applications of research outputs, providing technologies solutions to industry.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will be an established research leader in computer science, with an international reputation and track record of success in any relevant area, including but not limited to Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Visual Recognition or Economic Algorithms.

Requirements:

• PhD or equivalent in computing science.
• Experience of leading, winning and managing major research grants.
• Experience of supervising the successful completion of doctoral students.
• Experience of successful supervision of post-doctoral researchers.
• Relevant depth and breadth of knowledge in Artificial Intelligence.
• External evidence of demonstratable research excellence with a track record of outputs in top top international conferences and journals.
• Evidence of research experience, group supervision or managing research projects with a minimum of 5 years of related experience, including two years in a leadership role (e.g., Project Lead, etc.).
• Ability to lead and motivate academics, acting as a mentor to relevant staff.

Desirable qualifications:

• The ideal candidate will have an international reputation and track record of success in any relevant area, including, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Visual Recognition or Economic Algorithms.
• The ideal candidate will also bring demonstrable leadership experience together with a commercial mindset.
• Experience with setting up spin-out companies.

Employment conditions:

• form of employment: full-time permanent position,
• competitive remuneration: PLN 22 000 gross,
• the Innovation Bonus – a share in the benefits of future commercialisation of the results of a Research Project, constituting an additional remuneration in relation to the basic remuneration. The Innovation Bonus, depending on the adopted model of commercialisation of the results of the Research Project, may take the form of:
  • the right to participate in our income from their commercialisation (in particular in the form of a license or disposal of intellectual property rights), or
  • the right of acquisition of shares or stocks in a spin-out company commercialising such solutions.
